: My grandfather's DD214 states that he was with the 738th FA Bn during Rhineland, Northern France, and Central Europe campaign (the best that we can read it at least). He passed away yesterday and I'm just trying to find out more about his military service and such. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you.
Bill:
My Father served in Btry B 738th FABN arriving in England around August of 44 and finally left from Marsielles in July of 1946. He did not talk very much about his military service so it is kind of a mystery to me. I do remember as a kid he showed what I believe was two bronze stars and one silver star so apparently they saw some pretty heavy action. Dad indicated that they were in the thick of the the Battle of The Bulge. His honorable discharge indicates that that he served in Rhineland, Central Europe
My dad passed away in October of 2003, the heroes of WWII are falling by the hundreds each day. I am an Army Reservist going back in after 11 years in the IRR and I hear some coming back from SWATO talking about hardships.... I do not think anyone has slept in a pup tent in 3 feet of snow in the Ardennes that I have talked with.
At any rate those like my father and your grandfather undoubtedly saw some pretty heavy action. It is good to know that they are not forgotten.
Please e-mail me @ insadj86@mchsi.com for further conversation, My dad and your grandfather probably fought over some of the same ground.
